4×4 Tyres

The tread pattern on a 4×4 tyre is much more widely spaced than that of a standard tyre; it also has deeper grooves and a larger tread block which gives the tyres a better grip on off-road terrains, such as snow, mud, grass, deep water. The tread on standard tyres fills with mud or grass etc and the wheels just go into a spin, whereas a 4×4 tyre will (in most cases) be able to maintain friction on off-road surfaces.

1. Power from the engine in a 4×4 vehicle is sent to all four wheels, rather than two on a rear-wheel or front-wheel drive vehicle, so tyres which have been specifically designed for this power distribution are essential. Inappropriate tyres on a 4×4 vehicle will result in a lack of grip and a short lifespan
2. 4×4 tyres are designed to carry heavier loads than standard tyres, known as a higher load index, which makes them suitable and safe to carry large families and heavy goods.
3. As discussed above, a set of 4×4 tyres will give the driver far superior traction in all weather conditions and off-road surfaces. If you’ve ever seen where a Land Rover can travel when fitted with the right tyres, you’ll understand the difference.
